I don’t usually post the stuff I do at work on here, but I thought this one was pretty interesting. I interviewed the filmmakers who shot HBO’s documentary about Obama’s campaign, and beyond the politics or even the story of the election, one thing that really stood out was the unique view these guys got on the campaign since they covered it separately from the regular media. A pretty cool story.

The story of Tishman Speyer’s purchase of Stuyvesant Town in Manhattan — 11,000 units and one of the last bastions of “affordable” rent-controlled housing in the city — sounded like lunacy when New York mag reported on it earlier this year. And it still does. According to the Wall Street Journal, the property that Tishman paid $5.6 billion for in 2006 has depreciated by more than half. It’s now worth just $2.1 billion. And the investors only have a few months of cash left for operations … The WSJ is also suggesting that this could be the first in a series of commercial property collapses that set off the Housing Crisis Part Deux.

Gotta say, though — the customer service rep was nice enough to credit my account for the overage charges when I called to get unlimited texting on my wife’s line (a mere $120 extra per year to send goddamned TEXT MESSAGES.)
